The 18th Habano Festival is the setting of choice for the launch of the first-ever Reserve by Hoyo de Monterrey in its iconic Epicure No. 2 (ring gauge 50 x 124 mm long), one of the brand’s symbols and one of the most sought-after habano vitolas around the world. Up to now, Hoyo de Monterrey was the only global habano brand that hadn’t rolled out either a Reserve or Grand Reserve.
For making this Reserve, all leaves in this habano (filler, binder and wrapper) have endured a long and thorough three-year aging process. This is a unique and exclusive output of 5,000 numbered boxes that stands for the absolute excellence of the brand.
This new Reserve delves deeper into the unique character of Habanos as a Protected Denomination of Origin. For making this Reserve, the finest tobacco leaves harvested in 2012 in Vuelta Abajo, Pinar del Rio, Cuba, were handpicked.
Epicure No. 2 is no doubt one of the best-known and coveted Robustos among habano smokers. It boasts a trendsetting format that joins the brand’s most renowned characteristics, such as a smooth blend and a sweet, delicate and scented character that provide this habano with superb elegance and complexity.
These habanos have been completely rolled by hand with long filler, with leaves selected by professional blenders and checked by over fifty seasoned tasters gathered in sessions planned by the Tobacco Institute. Some of those tasters include members of the National Tasting Commission from Cuba’s most prestigious cigar factories and experts from the Cuban tobacco industry and Habanos S.A.
Hoyo de Monterrey is one of the oldest and most prestigious habano brands. Its brand name harks back to 1865 and stems from the like-name tobacco plantations located in San Juan y Martinez, right in the heart of Vuelta Abajo, which is considered one of the most famous top-notch plantations.
The brand features such vitolas as Double Corona and the famed Serie Epicure, with its No. 1 and No. 2 vitolas, that were enhanced in 2008 with the Epicure Special. On the other hand, the Serie Le Hoyo stands out for its thin and midsize ring-gauge formats.
